By far, the most common use of a Galida’s Grub is threading it tail down on a ball head jig and swimming it slowly. But many years ago, quite a few fishermen started using our grubz as trailers on their reaction baits. Fishermen told us they liked the tail action and felt the ribs on our grubz added extra vibration to their baits. They also liked the way the grubz stayed in place longer than many other trailers. For these reasons, our new mold was designed with even deeper ribs and a slightly larger body. The density of the plastic wasn’t changed, so they still stay in place very well.
It doesn’t matter what time of the year it is or what part of the country you’re fishing, gamefish are primarily feeding on some type of baitfish, crawfish or frogs. Reaction baits such as spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, and buzzbaits almost always perform best when a trailer is used. Trailers add one or more of these elements to your baits; flash, color, contrast, or stability.
Galida’s Grubz currently offers 15 colors. All of them will work as trailers. You usually won’t go wrong by trying to duplicate the color of the primary baitfish or food source. However, our three most popular trailer colors are PEARL CHARTREUSE, VIVID WHITE and FLASH. In the past few years, the darker colors of chatterbaits have become quite popular. The Golden Shiner and Top Secret colored grubz have become popular on those baits. Many fishermen say they prefer a grub as a trailer because they can feel the vibration of the bait much better. They feel the larger trailers often inhibit the vibration.
In recent years more and more fishermen are using Alabama Rigs. Many types of trailers are being used. The Galida’s Grub is becoming more and more popular as a trailer on these rigs. Several fishermen have told us they use the flash or bluegill colors as the trailers on Alabama Rigs with a Pearl Chartreuse grub as the contrasting color on their stinger hook.
